Moving millions of cubic meters of soil in the construction of the Pacific Highway upgrade does create a challenge in the management of dust impacts. Each project is required to prepare a construction environment management plan which details how dust impacts will be managed.
Range of measures are typically implemented on construction sites including use of water carts, soil binders, progressive revegetation, adherence to speed limits on construction haul roads, water sprays on concrete batch sites /crushing plants, stopping or modifying certain works on high wind days and regular monitoring of dust both visual assessment and use of depositional dust gauges.
